Solution 1 - QR Mat
This welcome mat is designed to intrigue. Upon scanning the QR code a neighbour would be shown a customised message and would have the option to say hello online.

Solution 2 - Knowing when to Knock
One interview gave me a key insight: we don't know if we'd be disturbing our neighbours if we popped over to say hello. When communicating online, we're able to see when our contacts are available. Could this be integrated into a doorbell to show when neighbours are available?

Solution 3 - A simple box
Taking the first step is daunting. A simple box would be limit the social risk of having to ring the doorbell. Instead, a user could post a box through a neighbour's letterbox with a simple message and perhaps some food. The neighbour would then be invited to post the box back with a message in reply.

I'm on an adventure - to explore the limits of design's ability to solve social problems, big and small. To do this I attempted to solve 50 problems in 50 days using design. I also spent time with 12 of Europe's top design firms.
