Design for me is very simple: we’re the experts of desirability and usability. That’s it, that’s the only thing we do.
Designers are one component of a system. Design in and of itself cannot change the world, despite the Design Council telling us it will. Industry, government, policy, economics, these things will save the world.
Design by itself can do nothing; it’s very, very simple. If the Design Council wants to be the government then heaven help the rest of us. You need government, and it is the government that will change the world not the Design Council (who aren’t actually even designers anyway).
